GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF ROLE AND DUTIES
The Staff Dentist provides dental care services to patients of the dental clinic. The Staff Dentist is responsible for participating in quality improvement initiatives and strategic goal obtainment of the Dental Clinic.
The Staff Dentist is authorized to practice in any location that is recognized by HRSA as being within the scope of the Health Center project where dental services can be provided.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION
Unrestricted license to practice Dentistry in the Commonwealth of Virginia. DEA license to prescribe medicine. Board certification in chosen field of practice. Cannot be sanctioned under Medicaid or Medicare.
This position requires a comprehensive knowledge and application of primary dental care in outpatient settings and of the principles and practice of modern dentistry as related to public health organizations and community health programs as well as current social and economic problems pertaining to public health and their impact on primary health care.
Current CPR (BLS) certification is required.

ABOUT THE HEALTH CENTER
The Health Center has a brand-new dental clinic that is projected to open in October of this year. We have 2 part-time dentists and will have 3 other full-time dentists by October. Our Health Center is located within a culturally diverse community comprised of numerous immigrant resettlements. Statistically, 68% of our patient population is covered by Medicaid or uninsured, 19% are private/commercially insured, and the remainder are covered by Medicare. Due to the culturally diverse community our Health Center is a part of, 48% of patients are best served using a language other than English. To better serve our linguistically diverse community our Health Center provides staff interpreters, telephonic interpreter services and utilizes Boost Lingo; a service that uses interpreters on a screen for our patients.

Virginia Community Healthcare Association (VCHA) is a non-profit membership organization that serves as the primary care association for Virginia’s thirty community health centers and look-alike health centers. Membership in VCHA is open to all Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and Federally Qualified Health Center Look-Alikes operating delivery sites in Virginia. VCHA supports our health centers in their mission to provide access to health care regardless of geographic location or ability to pay.
